GSCNC Girl Scout is First Virginia Girl Scout to recieve VFW “Scout of the Year” Award
In Williamsburg, Virginia, on June 7, 2012, Katie T. of Lake Ridge, Virginia was awarded the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Department Virginia, “Scout of the Year” for 2011-2012.
Katie, a Girl Scout Gold Award honoree, is the first Virginia Girl Scout to receive this prestigious award, prior awards having been awarded to Eagle Scouts. She received over $700 in award funding for her demonstrated exemplary leadership, moral/spiritual character and citizenship in scouting, school and the community by providing extensive community service to the youth, veterans and the elderly.
Highlights of her community service include producing and directing a Christmas Eve Pageant to an assisted living facility, and providing over 100 hours of community service to the local, national and global communities. She has also fed the homeless, worked at asthma summer camps and served as an Ambassador for the “Northern Virginia Healthy Kids Coalition.”
